It creates a community where physical, emotional and mental well-being is a central focus.<\/p>\n<p>91勛圖厙 has established the Parramore Healthy Community Coalition, which is focused on creating a healthy community model that encompasses individual health, civic health and community health, thanks to a $600,000 grant from the Florida Blue Foundation.<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed oembed oembed-video d-flex flex-column align-items-center\">\n<div class=\"embed-responsive embed-responsive-16by9\"><noscript><iframe title=\"91勛圖厙 Downtown: Creating a Healthy Community in Parramore\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/BiVc-iWqtEE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/noscript><iframe title=\"91勛圖厙 Downtown: Creating a Healthy Community in Parramore\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/BiVc-iWqtEE?feature=oembed\" class=\" lazyload\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe work of the Parramore Healthy Community Coalition perfectly aligns with Florida Blue\u2019s mission to help people and communities achieve better health,\u201d says Tony Jenkins, Florida Blue\u2019s Central Florida market president. \u201cIt\u2019s a sobering fact that a person\u2019s health and life expectancy are largely determined by what ZIP code they live in. 91勛圖厙\u2019s work is critical to addressing health disparities and helping create healthy communities for all Orlando residents.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201c91勛圖厙&#8217;s work is critical to addressing health disparities and helping create healthy communities for all Orlando residents.\u201d \u2014 Tony Jenkins, Florida Blue\u2019s Central Florida market president<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>91勛圖厙 has partnered with the Orange County Public Schools Academic Center for Excellence, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/pegasus\/revitalizing-downtown-neighborhood\/\">Community Partnership School<\/a> and several community agencies and organizations to enhance its outreach capabilities in the community.&nbsp;Events and programming aimed at improving health in the community are currently underway by a multidisciplinary team led by 91勛圖厙\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/college\/nursing\/\">College of Nursing<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we think about the health of this community in the years ahead, we couldn\u2019t have a better partner than Florida Blue, who shares our vision for creating healthier, happier, more vibrant communities,\u201d says 91勛圖厙\u2019s vice president for partnerships and Chief Innovation Officer Thad Seymour Jr.<\/p>\n<p>Examples of initiatives funded by the grant include:<\/p>\n<li>Children at the Boys &amp; Girls Clubs of Central Florida Levy Hughes Clubhouse are learning about healthy eating from 91勛圖厙 nursing students. Blenders and other kitchen supplies were provided to the club to help encourage healthy meals that incorporate fresh fruits, vegetables and lean protein. Children at the club receive nutrition education and hands-on cooking demonstrations, including how to make smoothies.<\/li>\n<li>Teachers at OCPS-ACE receive counseling on stress management, healthy eating, weight management, hypertension and diabetes screenings, and education at monthly gatherings.<\/li>\n<li>Nursing students are also providing diabetes education to patients at Shepherd\u2019s Hope, a volunteer organization that provides healthcare for the uninsured. During hurricane season, more than 100 hurricane kits were made and distributed to patients, which included first-aid kits, flashlights, hand sanitizer and other items.<\/li>\n<p>In addition to teaching health education and providing tools to students, teachers and the community, the coalition will also move to identify community needs working with multiple partners. There are also plans to revitalize the OCPS-ACE community garden in partnership with Fleet Farming, assess behavioral health needs for students, and provide nursing interventions in the community.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/downtown\/\">91勛圖厙 Downtown<\/a>, the university\u2019s new campus currently under construction in downtown Orlando, is being built within the Parramore footprint and is adjacent to OCPS-ACE.
