{"id":68206,"date":"2015-09-22T12:03:47","date_gmt":"2015-09-22T16:03:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/?p=68206"},"modified":"2018-07-05T16:14:10","modified_gmt":"2018-07-05T20:14:10","slug":"ucf-research-powers-mobile-learning-platform","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/ucf-research-powers-mobile-learning-platform\/","title":{"rendered":"91勛圖厙 Research Powers Mobile-Learning Platform"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Online-teaching technology designed at 91勛圖厙 is making its way into the private sector.<\/p>\n<p>David Metcalf, a senior researcher at the 91勛圖厙\u2019s Institute for Simulation and Training, has helped create technology that will be used in a new online-learning platform coming to mobile devices.<\/p>\n<p>Metcalf\u2019s innovations are an integral part of the new mobile platform scheduled to be released in January by <a href=\"https:\/\/thedreamdegree.com\/\">DreamDegree<\/a>, a private company that offers free college-level courses online. Metcalf\u2019s research allows the mobile courses to be adaptive, allowing users to progress at their own pace based on their answers and mastery of the material.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur students are increasingly mobile. DreamDegree integrates mobile, adaptive learning and competency-based education components to improve student outcomes and make learning faster and easier. We are pleased to be partnered with DreamDegree and Significant Technology,\u201d said Metcalf, director of the Mixed Emerging Technology Integration Lab at the institute.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas Cavanagh, associate vice president of Distributed Learning at 91勛圖厙, said the technology can help lower the cost of a college education.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am eager to watch the new releases of the adaptive mobile software as it aims to continuously improve the student experience,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>DreamDegree\u2019s parent company, Significant Technology, LLC, sought out Metcalf as a co-founder to help design the mobile-learning strategy. Metcalf has been a leader in the field of online learning for more than 20 years. The company sponsored his research on the project.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDr. Metcalf&#8217;s research and technology have made higher education more flexible, affordable and effective for DreamDegree students,\u201d said DreamDegree founder Michael K.
